Bokeh Background

For this week's CCEE Challenge, Lynn asks us to featuring the background technique known as watercolor bokeh. The word bokeh is a photography term which describes the way a camera lens creates out-of-focus points of light.

I created my background using Distressed inks - Squeezed Lemon, Spiced Marmalade, Picked Raspberry. I then used my circle dies to cut a stencil out of acetate and sponged white circles over the background to achieve the desired effect, you may have to repeat the white layers depending on how wet or dry your ink pads are.
I wanted the background to be the focal point so I just added some die cut words with a black shadow (achieved by cutting one in pink and in black and just putting them together.)

I hope you join us at CCEE Stampers for this fun technique.

  3. I always think that when I've put a lot of time and work into a background, I want to let it be the main focus! The newer word dies are certainly a great help in achieving this. The little pops of yellow in with the pink look wonderful.
